You probably wouldn’t know this by looking at him but, at one time, Adam Slack was 376 pounds heavier. He weighed 585 pounds, was suffering from ailments that come with obesity (diabetes and high blood pressure) and needed help to do things as simple as tie his own shoes.
One fateful day, Slack, while at his security guard’s job, almost passed out and was taken to a hospital. It was there that a doctor asked him the question that would change his life:
‘Uh, hello Mr. Slack, what would you like in your obituary?’
Adam Slack said he got angry with the doctor but within moments after he told the doctor to leave the room, realized that the jarring words rung true. It was then that he decided to make a change. This was in 2008. Fast-forward three years and, after a lot of work and commitment, Adam Slack has gone from 585 pounds to 209 pounds. He has gone from someone watching life on the couch to a dad who coaches his son’s baseball team.
Reading stories like this make me realize that it can be done and it’s worth the effort.
