Someone’s trying to tell me something
“Hush…Hush…somebody’s calling my name.”

When you get a lot of signs, you should start paying attention. I’m reading more and more about how a lot of foods, many of which I eat, are putting me on path to diabetes, coronary disease, possible dementia, etc. Also, recently, a person I know, who is just a few years older than I, had a heart attack, because he was not taking care of his health.
Basically, what I’m saying is that I’m starting to get the message.
One of my favorite sayings is, “Pay now or pay later”. You can’t avoid certain things in this life. You can have good diet and exercise habits when you’re young and pay a little now. Or, you can wait until you’re in your forties and overweight and work much harder. Worse yet, you can wait until you have a health emergency and, if you’re blessed enough to survive, you’ll have an even bigger set of challenges ahead. Well, I didn’t pay then so, I guess I have to pay now.
It’s tough but, I had to come to some realizations about myself. I’m not old but, outside of politics, no one would call me a young man. I’m not going to burn off last night’s pizza so quickly and working out is more demanding. But, the fact of the matter is that my situation is far from hopeless. The biggest obstacle is not the weight, the eating changes or even the workouts. The challenge I face is mental — I have to generate the will to pursue and stick to a change.
Right now, this is all still a choice for me. Sooner than I’d like to believe, I may not have this choice. So, I think I’ll pay now because the price later may be more than I can afford.
